This heirloom cabbage produces compact round heads with deep wine-red colored leaves. Heads average 6” in diameter and weigh about 3 pounds.
Sowing:
For early spring crop: sow indoors 5–7 weeks before last expected frost and transplant outside 3 weeks before last spring frost.
Protect spring plantings with row covers to discourage cabbage loopers.
For fall crop: sow directly in garden 3 months before first expected frost.
Cover seed with 1/4" fine soil.
Thinning:
Thin plants to 18" apart in rows 24" apart.
Enjoy young leaves from thinning in salads.
Germination:
7–10 days depending on soil and weather conditions.
Keep evenly moist but not continually wet.
Remarks:
Compact enough for small gardens or containers.
Stores better than any other early cabbage tested.
Heads hold well in the garden before splitting.
