Matures in 70 Days
The original variety of non-heading type cabbage, also known as Southern or Creole. Grows up to 2½ feet tall, producing broad, crumpled leaves. Very popular in the South and gaining popularity elsewhere. Grown for its succulent, juicy leaves with a mild cabbage-like flavor.
Sowing:
Sow seed outdoors as early as the ground can be worked.
Plant in rows 3 feet apart, spacing seeds 1 inch apart.
Cover with ½ inch of fine soil, well pressed down.
Keep soil moist until seedlings emerge.
Thinning:
When plants are 2 to 3 inches tall, thin or transplant 2 feet apart in the row.
Germination:
Germinates in 7 to 14 days depending on soil and temperature conditions.
Remarks:
May be planted in mid-summer for a late fall crop.
Flavor improves after frost.
This variety will succeed where heading cabbages fail.
