Harvest in: 75 days
Description:
Butter & Sugar corn is still the most popular variety for home gardeners because of its balance between sugar and crunch with that ultimate corn taste. Most plants will produce two 7 to 8 inch ears with a random assortment of golden yellow and creamy white kernels. Very good holding quality.
SOWING:
Plant corn seed in full sun directly in the garden when the soil has warmed to at least 70°F and nighttime temps do not dip below 60°F. Corn requires full sun and fertile soil.
Plant seed 1½ inches deep, 3–4 inches apart in blocks (4 ft. x 4 ft.), or in rows 24 inches apart.
THINNING:
When plants are 5 inches tall, thin to 10 inches apart. Corn is wind-pollinated and crowded plants may not produce full ears.
GERMINATION:
8 to 15 days depending on soil temperature.
REMARKS:
Corn is a heavy feeder, so plan to fertilize 2 to 3 times during the growing season. Succession planting every few weeks until mid-summer will provide a continuous harvest. Pick when silks just start to turn brown.
