Matures in 110 Days
This variety produces a large bulb at the surface of the ground which makes an excellent vegetable with a peculiar but pleasing flavor. It is widely used in Italy and by people of Italian descent in this country.
SOWING:
Plant seed in spring as soon as danger of frost is past. May be planted as late as July for fall use. Space seeds 1–2 inches apart in rows 2 feet apart and cover seeds with ¼ inch of fine soil, well pressed down. Keep soil moist until seeds start to grow.
THINNING:
When plants are 3 to 4 inches tall, thin or transplant 1 foot apart in the row.
GERMINATION:
Germinates in 7 to 14 days depending on soil and weather conditions.
REMARKS:
When the plants are half grown, blanch the bulbs by piling soil around the bottom of the plant to cover the bulbs.
