Tagetes Patula
HISTORY
First found in Brazil in the 1500s, the dwarf forms were so popular in Paris that they became known as French Marigolds. Considered tokens of good luck, the flowers were thought to ward off evil.
HABIT
Produces an abundance of blooms on small plants that make ideal borders. Will bloom all season until frost if the flowers are picked frequently. Easy to grow in a sunny location. Height: 8 to 10 inches.
CULTURE
Often started indoors 4 to 6 weeks before the last frost, they are easily grown by direct seeding in late spring after the ground has warmed. Cover seed with 1/4 inch of fine soil. Germinates in 7 to 14 days.
