Matures in 75 Days
This outstanding winter squash is one of the earliest acorns. Vigorous, wilt-tolerant semi-bush vines produce handsome dark green fruits. High-quality, fiberless orange flesh is thick and flavorful. Fruits are 5 inches by 6 inches—just the right size for two servings.
SOWING:
Plant seed outdoors after all danger of frost is past or start indoors 4 to 6 weeks earlier. Make a group of 3 to 5 seeds placed in a ring about 3 inches across; cover with ½ inch of fine soil, well pressed down. Each ring of seeds is called a hill, and hills should be spaced 4 to 6 feet apart each way.
THINNING:
When plants are 3 to 6 inches tall (after the second set of leaves appear), thin to the 3 strongest plants in each hill.
GERMINATION:
Germinates in 7 to 14 days depending on soil and weather conditions.
REMARKS:
Delicious in pies or cut into pieces and baked, steamed, or boiled. Cut squash from vines with pruning shears.
