Description:
Bluebonnets are easy to grow, requiring no fertilization, minimal water, and are drought tolerant. Approximately 8 to 10 hours of full sun is recommended. Usually reseeds itself.

SOWING:
For best results, soak the seeds for up to 48 hours, changing the water twice.

For small spaces and garden beds: Plant 2 to 3 seeds together with 10 inches between the next planting. Plant a shallow 1/8 inch deep and tamp down earth to make strong soil-to-seed contact.
For large spaces and meadows: Plant a shallow 1/8 inch deep and tamp the soil down firmly by walking over it or by using a seed roller.
THINNING:
Thin to one strong plant after true leaves develop.

GERMINATION:
Germinates in 4 to 10 days depending on soil and weather conditions.

REMARKS:
Texas designated the bluebonnet as the official state flower in 1901. The flowers were named for the sunbonnet-shaped petals. Bees and butterflies are highly attracted to the brightly colored flowers.
