Cucumber Bush Pickle
Cucumis sativus

Matures in 55 Days

Instead of a sprawling vine, these cucumbers grow on compact, bushy plants—ideal for small gardens or containers. Plants reach about 3 feet in diameter at maturity.

Sowing:

Plant seed outdoors in late spring when the ground is warm and frost danger has passed.
Make a group of 3 to 5 seeds placed in a ring about 2 inches across.
Cover with ½ inch of fine soil, well pressed down.
Each ring of seeds is called a hill; space hills 3 to 5 feet apart.
Thinning:

When plants are 2 to 3 inches tall, thin to leave the 3 or 4 strongest plants per hill.
In containers, thin to 1 or 2 plants depending on container size.
Germination:

Germinates in 8 to 10 days depending on soil and weather conditions.
Remarks:

A second planting in early summer is recommended for a fall harvest.
Pick fruit often and avoid letting them grow too large for best flavor.
