A special selection of the oddest shapes and colors to please and attract everyone. Rapid-growing climber that can be grown on a trellis or allowed to run in the garden.
Sowing:
Plant seed outdoors in a sunny location after frost danger is past, or start indoors 4–6 weeks earlier.
Make a group of 3–5 seeds placed in a ring about 2 inches across.
Cover with ½ inch of fine soil, well pressed down.
Each ring of seeds is called a hill; space hills 6–8 feet apart.
Thinning:
When plants are 2–3 inches tall, thin to leave 3 or 4 strongest plants per hill.
Germination:
Germinates in 10–15 days depending on soil and temperature.
Remarks:
May also be planted in rows 6–10 feet apart, spacing plants 2–3 feet apart in the row.
Can be planted among corn.
Cut from vines with pruning shears, leaving 3” of stem.
Allow fruits to remain on vine until fully mature.
Gather before frost.
Wax or shellac mature fruits for year-round ornamentals and table decorations.
