Perennial
Height: 10–12 inches
A grass-like herb of the onion family. Flat tube-like tops, which are cut as needed, have a mild flavor midway between garlic and onion. Used for flavoring salads, soups, stews, and stir-fry.
SOWING:
Plant seed outdoors as soon as the ground can be worked. Plant seed in rows 12 inches apart, spacing seed 1 inch apart in the row. Cover seed with ¼ inch of fine soil, well pressed down. Keep soil moist until plants start to grow.
THINNING:
When plants are 2 to 3 inches tall, thin or transplant 4 inches apart in the row.
GERMINATION:
Germinates in 10 to 15 days depending on soil and weather conditions.
REMARKS:
When plants are 5–10 inches tall, cut outer leaves near the ground with scissors. Use fresh or freeze for later use. When in bloom, the flowers are a glorious white and very decorative in a border.
