These large, meaty fruits are loaded with flavor. First cultivated in a small village outside Budapest, Hungary around 1900. They are great for roasting, canning, sauces, or eating fresh.
SOWING:
Start seed indoors 6 to 8 weeks before last frost or plant directly outside after all danger of frost has passed. Harden off plants before transplanting outdoors. Plant seeds 1/4 inch deep in well-drained soil, 2 inches apart, in rows approximately 2 feet apart. Cover seeds with 1½ inches of soil, well pressed down. Water well at planting time. Keep moderately moist after seedlings emerge.
THINNING:
When plants are 4 to 6 inches tall, thin or transplant outdoors 18 to 24 inches apart in rows 2 feet apart.
