Matures in 85 Days
The standard yellow variety with purplish coloring in the upper portion which is above ground. Has a small tap root, is fine textured with a sweet mild flavor. Rutabagas are also called Swedish or Russian Turnips.
SOWING:
Plant seed outdoors as soon as soil can be worked. Plant in rows 2½ feet apart, spacing seed 1 inch apart in the row. Cover seed with 1/2 inch of fine soil, well pressed down. Keep soil moist until seeds start to grow. Good results are obtained by planting as late as the first of August.
THINNING:
When plants are 1 to 2 inches tall, thin to 10 to 12 inches apart in the row.
GERMINATION:
7 to 10 days depending on soil and temperature conditions.
REMARKS:
Just before severe frost, lift the roots and store in moist sand or pits for the winter.
