Squash Buttercup
Cucurbita pepo

Matures in 95 Days

A small, turban-shaped squash considered to be the best tasting of all the winter squashes, combining a rich buttery and nutty flavor. Fruits weigh 3 to 4 pounds with deep orange flesh and a small seed cavity. Excellent keeper through the winter.

SOWING:
Plant seed outdoors in a sunny location after danger of frost is past or start indoors 4 weeks earlier. Make a group of 3 to 5 seeds placed in a ring about 2 inches across; cover with 1/2 inch of fine soil, well pressed down. Each ring of seeds is called a hill and hills should be spaced 6 to 8 feet apart each way.

THINNING:
Thin when plants are 2 to 3 inches tall, leaving 3 to 4 strongest plants in each hill.

GERMINATION:
10 to 15 days depending on soil temperature and conditions.

REMARKS:
Allow fruits to remain on vine until fully matured. Gather before frost, leaving part of the stem attached to the fruit. Handle carefully and store in a moderately warm, dry place during winter.
