Matthiola bicornis

Type: Annual
Height: 1 foot
Description:
This sun-loving early variety forms dwarf, compact plants that are excellent for edging or low beds. The sturdy foliage is greyish-green with dense spikes that are covered with rosette blossoms in soft colors.

SOWING:
Sow seed outdoors when danger of frost is past or start indoors about 4 weeks earlier. Plant in rows 1 foot apart, spacing seed 1/2 inch in the row. Cover seed with 1/8 inch of fine soil, well pressed down. Keep soil moist until plants start to grow.

THINNING:
When plants are 2 to 3 inches tall, thin or transplant to 1 foot apart.

GERMINATION:
Germinates in 7 to 14 days depending on soil and temperature conditions.

REMARKS:
Hot weather is responsible for the blind growth (no flowers) that often disappoints outdoor growers of this flower; therefore, in areas with hot summers, seed should be started indoors.
