Description:
This overwintering broccoli produces a liberal cutting of turnip-like leaves and small tender flower buds which are used for greens. Also known as Broccoli Rabe, Turnip Broccoli, Sparchette, and Broccoletto.
SOWING:
Plant seeds outdoors in late summer to mid-fall in a sunny location. Plant seed thinly in rows 2 feet apart, covering seed with 1/4 inch of fine soil, well pressed down.
THINNING:
When plants are 2 inches tall, thin to about 2 feet apart in a row.
GERMINATION:
Germinates in 7 to 10 days depending on soil and temperature conditions. Later plantings in cooler temperatures may slow germination.
REMARKS:
For fall greens, plant seeds in mid to late summer. For early spring greens and flower buds, sow in mid to late fall.
