Tender, crisp, and sweet with a pleasant spicy flavor. Used like lettuce in salads, cooked like spinach, shredded for slaw, steamed, or stir-fried. Plants are 16 to 20 inches tall. Heads about 4 inches across at base. Thick green leaves blanch creamy white inside. Sure header, keeps well.

Sowing:

Plant in spring as soon as ground can be worked.
In rows 2 feet apart, spacing seeds 1 inch apart in the rows.
Cover seed with ¼ inch of fine soil, well pressed down.
Thinning:

When plants are 2 to 3 inches tall, thin or transplant to 18 inches apart.
Germination:

Germinates in 5 to 10 days depending on soil and weather conditions.
Remarks:

For continuous supply, plant every 2–3 weeks until weather gets hot, then again in late summer for fall crop.
