Cleome Mixed Colors (Spider Flower)
Cleome hassleriana, Mixed

Annual
Height: 3 to 4 feet

Description:
Each branch of cleome produces a flower head at the top in shades of pink, rose, purple, and white. The plants are free of insects and diseases while often attracting hummingbirds and butterflies.

SOWING:
Cleome seed often needs to be chilled (stratified) to germinate successfully. Where winters are cold, scatter seed over bare ground in late winter and allow Mother Nature to do the rest. To start indoors, place seed and a small amount of moistened seed starting mix in a Ziploc bag in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 weeks. Plant the chilled seed outside (or in pots), covering with 1/8 inch of soil pressed firmly. Keep evenly moist.

THINNING:
When plants are 2 to 3 inches tall, thin or transplant 1½ to 2 feet apart in rows or beds.

GERMINATION:
Germinates in 10 to 18 days depending on soil and weather conditions.

REMARKS:
A most attractive bed and border plant, Cleome will bloom continually throughout the summer until frost. In open windy areas they may require staking.
