Shade-loving annual that is grown for its colorful foliage. The flower is insignificant. Ideal as a bedding plant, in containers, hanging baskets, garden borders, or as a windowsill plant.

SOWING
Plant seed outdoors about a week before you expect the last frost or start indoors 4 to 6 weeks earlier. Plant seed in rows 12 inches apart, spacing seed thinly in the rows. Seed is very small and should be carefully pressed into soil.

THINNING
When plants are 2–3 inches high, thin or transplant to 12 inches apart.

GERMINATION
Germinates in 10 to 12 days depending on soil and temperature conditions.

REMARKS
A light sprinkling of peat moss over the seed is desirable but not essential. May be grown on windowsill indoors year-round.
