A distinct leaf lettuce variety shaped like oak leaves with a delicious buttery flavor. The hearts make excellent greens when cooked like spinach. This variety withstands hot weather without becoming bitter.
Sowing:
Sow seed outdoors as early as the ground can be worked.
Plant in rows 15 inches apart, spacing seeds 1 inch apart.
Cover with ¼ inch of fine soil, well pressed down.
Keep soil moist until plants start to grow.
Thinning:
When plants are 3–4 inches tall, thin to 6–10 inches apart.
Germination:
Germinates in 7–10 days depending on soil and weather conditions.
Remarks:
As heads develop, pick outer leaves off every other plant, then remove completely to allow remaining plants more space.
Repeat planting every 2–3 weeks for continuous harvest all season.
