Matures in 50 Days
Maroon-red Oakleaf type with sweet flavor and tender texture. Adds vibrant color to salads. Forms large rosettes and is slow to bolt, allowing extended harvest.
Sowing:
Plant seed outdoors as soon as ground can be worked.
Rows 15 inches apart, spacing seeds 1 inch apart.
Cover with ¼ inch of fine soil, well pressed down.
Keep soil moist until seeds start to grow.
Thinning:
When plants are 3–4 inches tall, thin or transplant to 6–10 inches apart.
Germination:
7–14 days depending on soil and temperature conditions.
Remarks:
As heads develop, pick outer leaves from every other plant, then remove completely to give remaining plants more space.
For continuous harvest, repeat plantings every 2–3 weeks.
