Matures in: 70 days
Height: 4+ feet
Description:
These early peas produce pods between 4 and 5 inches long. They are a cool-weather crop—sweet, tender, high-yielding, uniform, and productive—perfect for early spring planting. Great eaten raw or in salads and stir fries. Wilt resistant.
SOWING:
Direct sow in early spring. This pea is a cool-season vegetable and can tolerate light frosts, even when the plants are small.
Plant seeds 1 to 1½ inches deep and 1 to 2 inches apart in rows 18 to 24 inches apart.
Keep soil moist but not wet.
As vines grow, support with a stake or trellis at least 5 feet tall.
THINNING:
When plants are 2 to 3 inches tall, thin to 4 to 6 inches apart.
GERMINATION:
7 to 14 days depending on soil and weather conditions.
REMARKS:
For snow peas, pick before the peas start to enlarge. For shell peas, if the pea pod is round and bright green, it’s time to pick.
