All-America Gold Medal Winner. Many consider this the best-flavored of all edible pod peas. Young, thick edible pods are crisp and sweet. Used raw or in salads, as well as frozen or cooked. Strings in pods should be stripped out. Shelled peas from more mature pods are also of excellent quality.
SOWING:
Plant seed outdoors as soon as the ground can be worked.
Plant in rows 2 feet apart, spacing seeds 2 inches apart in the row.
Cover with 1 inch of fine soil, well pressed down.
THINNING:
When plants are 3 to 4 inches tall, thin to 8 to 10 inches apart.
GERMINATION:
10 to 14 days depending on soil and temperature conditions.
REMARKS:
Pole peas require support using string, netting, trellis, or fence. To save space, plant in 2 rows 6 inches apart with support between. Make successive plantings every 3 weeks for continuous harvest.
