Ice box type of melon widely adapted, produces an abundance of small 8 x 8½ inch fruits. Rind is tough, thin, dark green. It has very sweet, firm, bright red flesh with small dark brown seeds.

SOWING:
Sow seed in late spring when soil is warm or start 4 to 6 weeks earlier indoors. Plant 3 to 5 seeds in a ring about 2 inches across; cover with ½ inch of fine soil. Each ring is called a hill and hills should be spaced 3 feet apart.

THINNING:
When plants are 2 inches tall, thin to 3 plants per hill.

GERMINATION:
Germinates in 7 to 10 days depending on soil and weather conditions.

REMARKS:
Watermelon vines are thirsty, heat-loving plants. To keep roots warm and consistently moist, consider using a dark mulch. Dusting with lime will help to control pests.
